The Aims of CAMS PDF Print E-mail
CAMS aims to encourage an holistic approach to the management of the area, its primary objective is to protect and enhance a major countryside resource for the appreciation and enjoyment of future generations. In addition CAMS specific objectives are...

·          To prepare and implement proposals for the restoration of the historic landscape
·          To protect and enhance wildlife habitats
·          To create opportunities for quiet recreation and enjoyment of the area
·          To sustain and improve countryside access routes for walkers and riders

CAMS has been tackling the problems that have plagued the historic estate for many years.  These problems included illegal motorbike scrambling, car dumping, fly-tipping, vandalism, abuse, land ownership fragmentation and a general lack of coherent management in an area that is highly designated for its environmental importance (Metropolitan Green Belt, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 2 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, Grade II* parkland, 9 listed buildings).

Initially CAMS undertook the role of a countryside management project and much of its early work included erecting gates and fences or planting hedges.  By making a difference locally, CAMS attempted to seek the confidence of landowners and the local community in order that it could tackle some of the seemingly intractable heritage issues, such as the plight of the Darnley Mausoleum. Subsequently an application was submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for substantial grant assistance to repair the buildings and landscape of the
Historic Cobham Park, establish coherent management and provide new educational and recreational resources.
